Post  kodiak47630 on October 22nd 2009, 12:56 am

i have what i believe is a 1966 custom 6. but from what i have read the engine model # doesnt match. mine says hh100-115097c . if anyone can help me find out about the engine i would appreciate it. the side of the hood has 2 decals on it one says sears 6hp and the other says custom four speed. do i actually have a custom 6?

A Custom 6 would not have a cast iron 10 hp engine from the factory. Is there a model number on the tractor, possibly near the shifter? What was the original paint color? The fenders on the 6 might be different than those on the 10, and also the tire size. Your tractor may have a different engine on it, or just some changed out sheet metal. Try to post a picture. Someone will help identify it for sure. :-)

The 15th icon from the left in the row above the "post a reply" box brings you to an image hosting function. The row starts with a B (bold), an I (italics) and so on.

You will have to create an account, then upload a picture from your hard drive. Copy the URL location from the box, then go back to the 16th box from in the same row. This will allow you to insert an image into the text. If you already have an image somewhere on the net, you can cut and paste the URL directly there instead. If done correctly, it will look like this:

The hood has the horizontal air vents like the early Customs, plus the fenders are squared off like the early models. The engine appears to be a transplant, and the front wheels are wider than the early Customs.

The only way to know for sure is to get the model number. You could probably call it a '66 with a newer engine and be safe. :-)

i dont think the front wheels are original there have been a few mods done to it. there are two emblems on the hood the one in front of the vents say sears 6hp. and the one behind the vents says custom fourspeed.

If it has a 3 speed trans axle with hi/lo its probabaly a early custom 10,a custom 6 will have the 4 speed trans axle with out hi/lo. With a custom 10 for parts the cast iron motor can be installed in a custom 6 since I have done it and I would like to see how the clutch assembly is attached on your tractor,it looks to have the 71 and up motor with the starter attached to the block and yours originally had the starter/generator and they both require different parts. On the motors with a starter/generator the clutch assembly bolts to the back of the block where the starter on your motor is and on the tractors with the starter on the side of the block the clutch assmbly is welded to the under side of the batter box. The early custom 10s ( pre 69) shared the same grilles as the custom 6 and proably the same with the hoods.

I also noticed the car alternator which is really not needed since that motor has a alternator under the flywheel, there should be two other wires that come out with the kill wire for the rectifier for the charging system. The Tecumseh rectifiers are quite expensive and the Kohler 15 amp rectifier can be used on the Tecumseh 10 amp system as I am doing it on one of my tractors.

Hi Paul here, I think they they use the same3 point that all the sears in the 60th. used
It would be a little hard to make your own. If you had all the dimension and pic. i guess
you could. you would also need to know how to bend and harden steel. later paul
