Tecumseh HH-100 points pushrod

I am looking for the same part as some others here, the pushrod that actuates the breaker points on an electric start Tecumseh HH-100 flathead.

Sumner Tractor, Auburn, WA, a big outfit that has been around long enough to know how to find parts via the usual dealers channels, tell me this item is NLA. The Tecumseh part number is 31952, the Deere number is M42177.

The pushrod is 9/64" diam. or slightly under, length is about 0.775", according to someone else's measurements. The material appears to be some sort of phenolic. New ones could be turned out of Delrin, but this is a difficult lathe job because of the tiny diameter; the lathe tool will tend to deflect the part, and I don't have a follower rest. As an experiment, I've ordered a length of 9/64" drill rod, out of which I can cut a pushrod. The possible problem is that the increased weight of a steel pushrod could cause points-float, even though these engines don't rev very high. I'll try it and let you all know.

But meanwhile, if anyone has a factory pushrod they don't want, . . . .

Yup, your right they are nla. I just went thru the same thing. I wouldn't use drill rod it's to hard. The people that are making them are using 9/64 brass rod. For my engine it was a couple thou. to big. I turned it down with
2000 grit paper.

I bought mine from Randy Becker 450deeres@frontiernet.net. His cell is 612.598.6264. He sells John Deere parts but as you know the HH100 was used in Deere's also. Anyway he had a bunch made up in brass.

You probably found one or made one by now, but I thought this might help anyone else looking for one.

Thanks, Walter. No doubt brass would be superior to drill rod. It simply didn't occur to me that brass rod might be available in 9/64" as a stock size. I assembled the engine with the steel pushrod, but haven't run it, and it's stored on a shelf in a garbage bag for the time being.
