I too need to change out the belt. broke this afternoon. I just took off the snow blower and put on the lawn mower. it seems there must be a easy way but i would like to proceedure frome the manual. The last time i changed it out i remember it to be a pain in the A?? There are a lot of belt guards to remove. as I remember I turned it on its side.. Anyone have a easy way ???

this Is a G18 yard tractor with the horizontal shaft motor not the verticle shaft.

Craftsmen 917.253741 manual Empty bobju1

Post  bobju1 May 23rd 2013, 1:43 pm

Hello, I am new to this forum and I have a 917.253741 but cannot find the manual. I can find others but they
have varidrive, I donot. I hate to ask first thing for a manual but I need it to restore my Garden Tractor.

I have found that the carb on these 18hp horizontal twins are easy to repair just take the 4 screws out of
the top and use a small wire to go through all the holes. Also don't use alcohol gas.

Hope that was of some help to someone. So thanks in advance and have a blessed day

I agree with the gas being a problem with our equipment. I have had so many problems with chainsaws, motorcycles, leaf blowers and string trimmers. The first thing I do now with any equipment that is malfunctioning is to drain and refill the gas tank. I have read that the shelf life on gasoline now is 90 days.

Here is a website that gives information on where to get ethanol free gas:

http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=ME

Here is a short PDF file on gasoline from Echo:

Do you still have a copy of this manual? I could use one if you do.

Thanks
