Replacing Auger Chain on 42" Snowthrower Empty Replacing Auger Chain on 42" Snowthrower

I have a model 842.260052 snowthrower and it just wiped an idler bearing-sprocket. I removed the auger drum from the housing and currently repairing the auger chain, which got twisted. Upon assembling the replacement idler sprockets, I realize there could be problem in alignment of the drive gears while re-installing the auger drive chain. Does anyone know the proper technique to install the chain back onto the auger drum?

Replacing Auger Chain on 42" Snowthrower Empty Replacing snowthrower drive chain

Hello,
I changed the chain out on dad's 39" snowblower with a new one (one of the very few parts still available for it) and it was cheap (about $16.00).
Even with the rubber tensioner block removed, there is barely enough room using a couple of pliers to hook together the master link.
Lots of cussing involved too.
Thanks,
Joe K.

Thanks, Joe... I was able to purchase a new chain from a local mower/tractor repair shop. We measured and cut the new chain alongside the old one and have a master link repair kit. Also was able to 'save' the bearing and replace lost retaining nut & washers that ultimately caused the chain to slip-off the idler sprockets. Now the fun begins. Owner of shop suggested putting thin wire in end of chain, then fishing it around the drive sprocket up and around the idler sprockets - finally fastening it with the master repair link. At that point, I will assemble the auger drum back into the housing. I just hope the loop of the chain meshes with the drive sprocket on the auger drum.
