Custom wheel weights

Has anyone ventured into making there own wheel weights. I've hear people using concrete. Or filling the tires with balest which is more efficient

LIQUID FILLED TIRES IS PROBABLY THE CHEAPER WAY TO GO, YOU WOULD NEED AN ADAPTER & SOME KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO, BEST TO VISIT A FARM TRACTOR DEALERSHIP FOR ADAPTER & HOW TO INFORMATION, PLUS THE EXPENSE OF ANTIFREEZE IF YOU LIVE IN THE NORTH, BELIEVE IT OR NOT TIRES WILL FREEZE & BURST, THE CONCRETE WEIGHTS YOU HAVE HEARD ABOUT ARE PLASTIC SHELLS FILLED WITH CONCRETE, THERE IS SOME CUSTOM BUILT METAL WEIGHTS AROUND. IF YOY ARE SERIOUS ABOUT TRACTION YOU WILL NEED LIQUID & BOLT ON WEIGHTS.

Sounds like I'm going with the liquid filled route. I like the way the tractors look with out the weights on anyway. So this way I can get weight and still look the way I like it too

ss12 going to pitch my three cents in your traction hat, liquid filled works good and it may be better than it was years ago when i farmed a little , that stuff was very corrosive to wheels. best to add tire/tube sealer so you dont end up with a big mess ( and you $$$ on your floor ) also depends reason for traction needed , are you pulling load or pushing load ? if pushing (dozer blade / snow blower ) you may think about building a bolt on weight box attached to the three point hitch plate. if pulling load such as a trailer may just load it tongue heavy for additional rear tractor weight , if pulling straight drag load may look into a more aggressive tire tread design hundreds of type and styles available for atv's . update us on your findings and what worked best for you . > tim

I found a product called rim guard. It is 30% heavier than water so its about the same as calcium chloride But this stuff is bio degrable and non corrosive. It's not expensive neither. So all the pros of calcium chloride with out the cons. And. The tires on my burb ad 23-8.50x12 and they ended up weighing around 55 pounds each. And I couldn be more happier with the results. So for anyone else looking for ballest try rim guard. I happens to have a dealer near me. I just had to take the rims and tires to him and he filled them up

I made 35 pound wheel weights from lead tire weights. I cleaned the lead as best I could and then melted them into an old frying pan that was a little smaller than my hubs. I cleaned the scut as I went along and wound up with clean weights that were easy to drill out and mount on the wheels (4 bolts per wheel). I also added a piece of angle iron in place of a trailer hitch and made a couple of 40 to 50 pound lead plates (melted into an old 8 by 8 cake pan - same method as wheel weights). I mounted the weights over the angle iron against the drawbar and made a metal strap to hold them in place using the holes in the sides of the drawbar to secure the strap. It works well and the extra weight really helps when using the snow thrower. Chains mount without problems as the wheel weights are well within the hubs. The lead weights will never rust or break if dropped.
