Can anyone tell me if a Custom series Tecumseh 10 hp Sears part #143.619012 is compatible with a Suburban 10 hp part #143.579042? I was thinking if the engine cowling was different I could take whatever parts I need off my old S-10 engine to convert the Custom engine if they are basically the same.

they are both HH10 engines and from looking at the sears parts site , the 619012 engine appears to have a gear driven electric start / the 579042 engine appears to be a manual start . this is only what i see from the parts page picture . more information on your problem would help . > tim

I noticed the difference in the starter as well. My engine, the Suburban 10 with the 579042 engine has a belt driven starter. If the 619012 engine has a gear driven starter that would explain the reason it looks different around the fly wheel housing. My engine needed a new head gasket and when I replaced it I broke off a head bolt. I couldn't get it out so I took it to a small engine shop & they couldn't either. I took it to a guy who does metal fabricating & he's been putzing with it on & off (mostly off) for nine months. This tractor has been in the family since new (going on 50 years) & I would like to get it back in service. Might be easier to replace the engine so I thought I could salvage parts off my engine to convert the 619012 so it's useable in place of the 579042. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

oh my that's terrible for someone to screw around that long on something that at most would take an hour or less to do . dang i remember posting a couple suggestions to try when you first posted that problem . you could slowly do it on a drill press with the right set up . i would think the electrics would be different on each engine with the different starter systems , someone else may be able to answer that to be sure . don't think i've done you any help , hopefully you can find a reliable source to fix your original engine . > tim

The problem with the head bolt is it broke off inside the head. I tried to drill a pilot hole in the broken head bolt in order to extract it & the drill broke off in the head as well. Can't get the bit out & can't drill thru it so I'm kinda stuck.

guess the first information needed would be 1 ) size of the drill that's broken ? 2 ) how deep is the drill broken in the bolt ? 3 ) is it centered in the hole of the sheared bolt ? may try a dremel with a carbide burr ( there are many different shapes ) and slowly grind the drill out this takes a steady hand and a lot of time certainly not nine months but a few hours . again an automotive engine shop should be able to fix that in a very short time . > tim
