Royal Pain In the ^%*
Here is a picture of the nut from hell. I dont even know if this is a sterring nut or the shaft?? I purchased a extractor socket.... but I will have to shave off some of this nut to get the socket to fit? Can anyone tell me of this is the shaft showing, or a nut and a washer, or exactly what this mess is? The wide washer seems to be one with either the nut or the shaft. It does have a key hole, at least I think . See picture with punch toll sticking slightly in the hole? ??? Can anyone tell me if this is a nut that can be removed or what I have going on here. I have PB blased it and hamered it... but nothing has happene as yet? Suggestions PLease. Thanks Buzz

That sure is a rusted one. That is the shaft your looking at. That had/has a C cilp that held the wheel on. That shaft has/had a groove in it for the C clip to fit in. Looks like it's all rusted as one. Chip away around the shaft and you might see the clip. Yes there is a key cut in the shaft, like a flywheel.
Your having fun now.

Humm thanks
Would you say... then, the idea is now to separate the shaft... from that washer??? Maybe grinding the washer... and prying it off and away from the shaft. Then the wheel should come off... and I can get a new C clip, nut.. IF the sterring shaft can be salvaged? Anyone have a spare sterring shaft!!!

clip
The clip is on top of the washer, looks like a small bump on the shaft next to the washer. There is a groove above the washer, if you can't see it the wire is likely still in it.

Maybe you can shock it loose with a hammer and flat chisel? It's worked for me with rusted nuts before.
