New to me - SS12 Empty New to me - SS12

Post  John D July 18th 2009, 4:07 pm

Yesterday I pushed home a 1971 SS12 model 917.25630 with dozer-snow plow. No other attachments. Came with manual for tractor & plow. Decent condition overall. My neighbor told me it runs, but he thinks it has a belt issue with the drive.

How difficult is it to find a decent mower deck?

Any idea of value? Will post photo(s) shortly.

Thanks!

Congrats on your new tractor ,they are a stout machine.Mower deck-you might find one tommorrrow or it may take a long time, post on your local classifieds and word of mouth might help find one.Decks usually rust and are scraped.Value-depends on who is looking-I have seen them go for $50-up to 600-700.The twins will fetch more $$$.Good luck with your new ride.

Thanks - I have looked it over and it is built quite a bit stronger than my 1968 Jacobsen Chief. But that runs good and has an aluminum deck and I do need to mow...

The number on the engine indicates "143" (Tecumseh) Spec 602022 and build date was Feb 4 1971 (1035E). It didn't have the HH120 number I was expecting. I looked at the Sears list of manufacturers and they list Roper, David Bradley or AYP for the 917 models. How can I tell if this tractor (917.25630) was a Roper, David Bradley or AYP built tractor?
