Please help me identify

I have had this mower for a few years and have finally rebuilt the carb. Can anyone help me identify this sears suburban? Someone took the id plates off this mower. Thanks for any help.[img][/img]

Looks exactly like mine. A 1972 SS15, with a 42 inch mower deck. Great looking paint job.

It's hard to track down the year of the Sears, especially with just a 90 degree photo. :-)

Some general statements can be made about the photo which lead me to believe it's between a 68 and 72:

1. Ribbed front tires.
2. Two spoke steering wheel,
3. Dash tower style.
4. Grille (wish there was a frontal shot)

Any of these identification point may be blurred however because parts were mixed and matched during restorations, or even at the factory! One thing that does seem odd, and perhaps was donated from another tractor, is the metal seat.

The metal plate near the shifter will give you the model number if it's still there. That is a general indicator of year. Also, the code number on the engine is valuable. Again this is just a ballpark figure because factory engines sometimes weren't used in the tractor for up to six months after they were made.
