Craftsman 10 HP Engine

I have just purchased a Sears 8XL Tractor with a Craftsman 10 HP electric start engine. I am planning to install the engine on an older model. I know I may need some parts for this engine. The valves are stuck; the carb needs rebuilding. It has a Solid State Ignition. Where is the best source for parts?

YOU HAVE JUMPED ON A BEAR, YOU HAVE A TECUMSEH ENGINE BEING A 10 OR 12 HP. THERE IS SOME SPONSERS ON THIS WEB SITE THAT HAS SOME PARTS AVAILABLE, BUT YOUR BEST BET IS EBAY. BEST TO DETERMINE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE DONE FROM SETTING AND DECIDE IF IT IS WORTH THE EFFORT, OR GET A GOOD RUNNING USED ENGINE.

A devise AUTOPULSE MADE BY WALBRO CORP was attached to the fuel intake of the carburetor. Is this part necessary; or can the fuel line from the tank go directly in the carb. What was the purpose? It is not shown on other engines.

Just found out; it is a fuel pump!! Hope it still works. If not does anyone have one laying around that does?

hi you can find rebuild kits on ebay or by search or new aftermarket ones are also available. my experience the engine will run fine on level ground , slopes and hills tend to give problems. hope this helps with your project. > tim

Hey thanks! I was sure the engine would run without it; other diagrams of newer models does not show the fuel pump. I had a very good small engine repair shop mechanic this morning look at it and said be sure the fuel tank is high to allow gravity feed and it will be ok; as you said they must have put these on because of hilly land; I live in the flat lands and will only use this tractor as a show piece. The shop did a through search for an aftermarket part but found nothing. I plan to see if this one is ok. Thanks again.
