Clutch/Brake Spring

Does any one know of a replacement for a 1974 SS16. Mine broke yesterday. Went to the local parts store and hardware this morning and got the stiffest they had but it doesnt seem to be stiff enough to keep drive belt engaged like I want.

THE SPRING YOU NEED IS AT TRACTOR SUPPLY, HAVE USED SEVERAL, CAN'T FIND PART # NOW, ALSO WAS AT A HDW. STORE AND SAW A SPRING DISPLAY WITH ALMOST THE SAME SPRING SELECTIONS. NOTE SPRING IS A LOT EASIER TO WORK WITH IF BATTERY IS REMOVED.

Thanks Georgia SS for the Tractor Supply suggestion, I hadnt thought of them. Theres one not far from where I work, will have to stop by there tomorrow. Yea that spring is in a tuff spot.

64 , my three cents worth , in the spring hook hole on the pivot arm i put a small eye bolt , it offsets the spring for a straighter pull and a little easier to hook . > tim

Yea that cotter key at each end is a little hard to hook spring in. The one on the pivot arm sometimes hangs on the engine cover at the back head.
