Pulling???
anyone know anything about garden tractor pulling?? I know the Sears are very strong tractors and was hoping to pull a couple of my 10XL's. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Pulling???
I know next to nothing about it, but I kinda want to build a puller too. From what I've gathered the Sears tractors do better in the stock classes. Perhaps I'm all screwed up on that, but it seems the heavy hitters are usually IH Cubs.

Re: Pulling???
What I pull with will depend on what my next tractor is. As of right now I have an ST/12 that is my working tractor, I have designs for my Custom 6 to be a '60s style Hotrod/Lowrider/Custom. I've heard that the Custom line is great for pulling though. I think it had something to do with the engine being on a much lower plane that rest of the chassis. I've read somewhere that the later model 8 speed transaxles bolt right in too.

Re: Pulling???
ya. When he told the story I realized how strong the tractor was (we just used it to pull my siblings in wagons and on sleds & stuff), so i thought i otta try pulling it.

Re: Pulling???
Neat collection. My girlfriend would kill me if I had that many tractors. I mentioned finding a 3rd one the other day and she says" what about the other two you already have?"... Uhhh "The '73 is too nice to modify and the Custom is too small for pulling..." yeah- that went over well.

Re: Pulling???
Thats funny.... you should tell her she should be happy they are just garden tractors, not big farm tractors

Re: Pulling???
She read this thread and said and I quote, " That'd be pretty sweet to have big tractors. I'd feel pretty awesome riding around on one..."

Re: Pulling???
Yeah.. I think it would be cool too. But my dad doesn't like my four tractors, and another on the way (i sound like a father ) hogging his shop.

Re: Pulling???
I drove the Custom around the yard yesterday. I still haven't figured out if it has 3 or 4 forward speeds, but that 1st/Granny low is really really low. Seems like it would be good for pulling stuff around. Probably just need some weight to make it a little brute.

Re: Pulling???
beastie,
How did you weight yours? When i pulled on Friday it weighed only 745 with me on it (we worked on it all day but didn't have time for weights) and the guy had to stand on the back for it to go just a little bit. We have over 300 lbs that we can use but aren't sure exactly where and how much to put...

Re: Pulling???
I'm not a puller myself, but from reading around on the forums, I've heard most guys with 10xl's who pull them replace the rearend with a suburban rearend for the splined axels, if you hook up well the stock axels with keys, the keys will shear.
