1963 Sears Suburban 725 Questions
I bought this tractor just to see what I could do with it. I am pretty sure it is a 1963. I can not find any markings on the motor, the sticker is long gone. Anyone tell me what brand and size motor it is?
Also, I think I understand the operation of if mostly, but i can not, for the life of me, understand how the torque/speed selector would make it go faster or slower. It appears to me it only makes the belt tighter or loser.
Any help is appreciated. Anyone have a manual??
Thanks

Re: 1963 Sears Suburban 725 Questions
The motor should be a Briggs and Stratton Model 19D.
The pullies are sheave, or variable dimension pullies. The lever that you are moving, which puts tension on the pully, should actually create the variable speed drive when the engine is running and both pullies can change diameter.
Most of these tractors will have a locked clutch after sitting for any time in a damp enviroment. Don't bang on the clutch pully to separate the clutch because it is cast and will break. Mine would stick after as little as a month of non-use.

Re: 1963 Sears Suburban 725 Questions
Spence,
Thanks for the reply. I am excited to get it running. Right now i have no spark but I am going to try to pull the flywheel tonight and see what the points look like, then pull the carb and see what it looks like. It came with a plow.
Again, thanks for the response.

I see now how the pulley changes and it's actually sliding free. I suspect the engine is not the original. If the 19d is supposed to be cast iron mine is aluminum. The slots it mounts in have been burned longer with a torch.

For Sale
I would like to sell the tractor. I am not going to fool with getting it running and it's pretty neat. The tires are all in excellent condition and all hold air. I believe it is all there. The engine has compression but no fire. If anyone is interested it is in middle tennessee.

I can send photos if anyone is interested or part it out if it helps anyone.
