What did they go for new? Empty WHAT DID THEY GO FOR NEW?

Post  Georgia SS November 18th 2014, 4:09 pm

HI
THAT IS A LOADED QUESTION. THE AMOUNT OF ACCESSORIES COULD DETERMINE THE PRICE OF A SUBURBAN. THE BASIC TRACTOR PRICE WAS BUMPING UP TO $2000 AND UP IN LATER 70S. ABOUT THE SAME PRICE OF A NICE RESTORED ONE GOES FOR TODAY. I HAVE SEVERAL LOOKING BETTER THAN ASSEMBLY LINE PRODUCED ONES I COULD LET GO.
HAVE A GOOD DAY

What did they go for new? Empty Cost of 1973 SS-16 and some accessories

Post  JiminRI April 14th 2015, 9:54 pm

Brand,
The only definite numbers I have are for an SS-16 and some implements. The seller said the SS-16 (16 hp Onan Twin) was $1600 new (tractor only, 1974 or 1975), but I recently found a 1973 catalogue which shows the tractor was $1216 in 1973. I bought it in 1977 with snow blade, disc harrows and chains for $800. I then bought the 42 inch 3 blade mower deck for about $320 and, in 1981, I bought the 42 inch snow thrower - list price was $750 but I got it on sale right after the fall catalog came out. I still have them all and use all but the snow blade - snow thrower was a necessity in RI this winter.
I have a pdf of the 1973 Sears Tractor brochure if you want it. It shows all the tractors and accessories, but no prices.
Jim

Pictures from the 1969 catalog. I might have some catalogs from the 70s but to lazy to look for them.

What did they go for new? Empty Sears Catalog Archive

Post  JiminRI January 16th 2016, 10:50 pm

If you are still looking for prices, I recently found a Sears archive with tractor catalogue information (including prices) from 1970 to 1993. You can download it all at http://www.mediafire.com/download/277cef6725fp32p/Sears_Archives.rar Prices are included.
Enjoy,
