GT 19.9 Air Filter

Well, it is I again. Always looking for answers. I went to a auto parts store wanting to cross reference an air filter for the Onan 19.9 that roars in my '78 Craftsman mower. They ordered me one. I picked it up and took it to the wonderful machine. The I.D. was way to small so I did not take it out of the packaging. The label said it was a revision for the 140-1228. The filter that is currently atop the Onan has an I.D. of 6 7/8". I have searched www and can not find one that has this dem. Can you help me find a filter so she will not choke on all this pollen?? I found the following filter listed on eBay ($13.50 including shipping):
This is a brand new aftermarket replacement air filter for Onan engines.  Replaces part numbers 140-1228, 140-2522, 140-2628 .

There were several others listed including genuine Onan NOS - but it appears to be smaller than you stated.

Thanks so much for your reply. I now believe, my dad has put the wrong filter in this tractor a decade or so ago. There is no part # on this filter. I took it to a parts store and we matched it best we could. I plan to take your advice and get your choice of filter. Thanks again.

You are welcome. According to the GT 19.9 Owner's manual for model 917.257080 (circa 1980), 140-1228 is the correct part number for the element. The part number for the foam wrapper is 140-1496.
