10XL THROTTLE CABLE
HI
I SHOPPED AROUND FOR A CABLE WITH NO LUCK, I HAVE A ROPER THAT IS THE SAME AS THE CUSTOM 10XL, I WILL LOOK AT THE CABLE ON THE ROPER FOR ID.AND LENGTH, PROBABLY SOME OTHER MODELS USE THE SAME CABLE, IF THE LEVER IS GOOD AND A BAD CABLE I WOULD REPLACE THE CABLE, LOTS OF THE THROTTLE LEVERS ARE THE SAME WITH DIFFERENT CABLE LENGTHS, TOO WET TO CHECK TODAY, MABY TOMORROW AND GET BACK TO YOU.

Re: 1969 sears custom 10xl throttle cable
I no longer need throttle cable, I finally found a new cable and paired it with a lever from a Murray. Works like it should. Now for my next issue, the 10 HP tecumseh had a blown head gasket, so off came the head and you guessed it, the head was warped. Fil d the head with my trusty head file replaced the basket and reassembled the rest. It starts fine but has to be almost wise open throttle to stay running, 3/4 throttle and I dies. That is the least of my worries, at full throttle the engine vibrates so bad nuts come off, anything on the tractor seat will go to the floor. Less throttle and the vibration slows down but it is still the same severity as full throttle.
I checked the cooling fins none broken, drive belt some slack, what I would consider normal. The vibration is the same speed as crank speed, so that pretty much narrows it down to the balance weights inside running off the crank.
If you have another idea of what could be causing this please let me know. The book says I can verify the correct timing through 2 holes on the side of the balance. I would like to cover all my bases before I tear it down. Thanks

10XL THROTTLE CABLE
HI
WHO KNOWS WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO THE MOTOR IN 40 YEARS, SOMEONE BANGING ON THE CRANKSHAFT PTO PULLEY OR FLYWHEEL, CRANKS WILL BEND.I HAVE BUILT MOTORS FOR A LIVING ALL MY LIFE BUT NEVER BEEN INSIDE A 10 TO 16 HP TECUMSEH UNTIL NOW, I HAVE 3 TORN DOWN TO USE THE BEST PARTS TO BUILD A OH160, THE OH160 THAT IS LIKE IT CAME FROM FACTORY VIBRATES A GOOD BIT, NOT AS SMOOTH AS MY ONANS, I HAVE 10HP ON THE BENCH THAT I RAN A BIT TO TEST, DON'T REMEMBER IT SHAKING VERY MUCH. IF THE 10HP HAS BALANCE GEARS SOMEONE MAY HAVE REMOVED THEM, HAD TO DO A BIT OF LEARNING ABOUT THE BALANCE GEARS, SOUNDS LIKE CARB. PROBLEMS.
HANG IN THERE
