1970 Custom 10XL Front Tire Replacement
The right front tire on my 1970 Custom 10XL is starting to bubble and I would like to replace both front tires. The part number is 7318H and the size of the tire is 16x5.00-8. I cannot find this size in a new tire and was wondering if anyone has replaced these tires with a different size (using the same rims). I have found the size 16x6.5-8 available and would like to know if that 1.5 inch wider width would fit my existing rims.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Tires
They'll fit fine. I've used them for about 8 or 9 years. Worst case would be to use a tube if they won't seal.

Does anyone know where to find replacement wheels for the front, one of mine is rusting very badly.

You can buy complete wheel/tire assemblies from most home improvement stores. They probably won't be the same size as the original so you may want to buy 2. I'd imagine the axle shafts are 3/4" so whatever you buy should fit a 3/4 shaft. If you just want a rim Ebay should net you several choices for short money.
Ona side note I'd love to find a pair of original sawtooth pattern front tires on the correct rims for for my Custom 6. It's got turf savers on 6" rims on it right now.

Re: 1970 Custom 10XL Front Tire Replacement
I just got some deestone tri rib tires for mine, they are size 4.80-8. They are the same height as originals and about a quarter of an inch narrower(4.80 width vs 5.0) they'll fit perfectly on the rims. The 16x6.5-8 will fit on the rim, but it won't be right. You can get deestone tri ribs on ebay for around 40 or 45 dollars a pair. You'll need tubes for them though, they are not tubeless tires.

replacement tires
I just bought my 10xl last spring and the tires seemed fairly new, so after reading this post, I checked it out. They are Cheng Shin tires, and they are tubed 4.8-8s with a diamond-like pattern. Went looking for them on the web and did not find them, but discovered that Cheng Shin is most active in the US selling motorcycle and trailer tires, although there are ATV and turf tires as well. They also sell the tri-ribs. I get the feeling that they are possibly cut rate tires, but they do look fine on the 10xl. Before I ran out of time on that search, I discovered that they have a sister company in the US, but I didn't go any farther, as that company seemed primarily automotive.
Hope this helps...post what you find.

Discount Tire sells a tire that's almost identical to the original. It is a trailer tire made by Carlisle. I just bought one about a week ago.

Worth noting that both tractor supply and walmart carry these tires as well. personally, I did not realize they looked like the original. I was looking more for a turf tire. That is why the tri rib appealed to me.

I ended up finding a 16" pair of wheels and tires at Lowe's that worked perfectly, they are even a little wider that the originals.
