1965 HH100...weak spark
hi all, new to the forum here, I heard that you guys here are very knowledgable on this subject, somthing im really needing.
the tractor in question is a
1965 Sears Suburban 10
Tecumseh HH100
with a
Delco-Remy starter/generator
Those are all the numbers i can find on this tractor.
I have also found out it is a David Bradley suburban.
The story behind the project
About a year ago i noticed my neighbor had an old tractor in his backyard. I asked him about it and he gave it to me. He said it runs, it just needs to be put together. It was in pieces. I took a few days cleaning the engine, it had fairly good spark, excellent compression, good gas flow. I got it together and after a few tries, it started! i drove it around the yard for a few days, drug a fence to clear some weeds, and parked it.
At this point it seemed all was good. I got busy with other things and the tractor sat for about 4 months. When i tried to start it again, it would hesitantly fire, run for about a minute, and die. It would only start once a day for that short time, so i set it aside. It sat for another 5 months.
Now, almost a year later, it sits in my shop, taking up space.
At the moment, compression, fuel delivery, timing, etc, is great. The spark on the other hand...not so great. It has a very weak spark, not even strong enough the make the new plug spark. If i almost touch the lead to ground, i get a faint spark.
I have cleaned the flywheel magnet and its two points, and replaced the condensor, no luck.
Now im at the point where i dont know what to do.
Questions

Questions
- 1.What type of ignition system does this engine have
2. If the starter isnt spinning fast enough, will that create a weak spark

Re: 1965 HH100...weak spark
most likely its your coil if you take off the blower housing you will see a horse shoe coil above the flywheel get this tested @ a small engine shop they make new setups that use car coils i think the sites http://www.overnight-solutions.com/
good luck

Re: 1965 HH100...weak spark
if you haven't already got it running, changing over to a car coil setup is easy. i did it on my 66 10hp. run a wire from the hot post on battery to a cutoff switch. from the switch to a ballast resistor to the + post on the coil. run a wire from the - side of the coil to the points.thats all there is to it. hope this helps
