TECUMSEH IGNITION REPLACEMENT
I have a 16 HP Tecumseh motor taken from a Sears 1971 16/6 tractor. I also have a 12 HP Tecumseh motor. Both are solid state. My question is, can I use my ignition from the 12 HP on the 16 HP without changing the coils. I have bolted the ignition unit up to the motor and it fires. I just do not know if it will soon kill the ignition. The coils on the two are very different. Thanks for your time.

OH160 Coil
I have gone through a similar journey with the solid state ignitions.
If I remember correctly, the HH120 12hp has a black coil and the OH160 16hp has a silver coil.
The man at the tractor boneyard I frequent for rare parts made it a point to keep the ignition parts matched.
It may not make a difference in the short term but it would be a shame to fry either component because they are getting hard to find.
Good luck.

Re: TECUMSEH IGNITION REPLACEMENT
First do you mean 1977, not 71? I figured since you mentioned 16/6 and 77 was only year for that name badge.
Second, these do not have coils nor magnetos, they have a SSI module.
The OH160 uses 610906 module, the 12's problably used 610748 or 610855. They will bolt up and work, but if any problems, it maybe a higher rpm miss.
