spindle bearings
i have a 1977 sears 42 inch mower deck model 917253580
im attempting to change the bearings on the spindles( mandrels)
the pulley and top bearing pressed off just fine but the bottom
one had to be cut off. does anyone know of a special tool
or a better way to get that bottom bearing off the shaft?
i dont want to cut them off the other two spindles in case i
would damage the shaft. thanks

Re: spindle bearings
You need a bearing seperator and a puller. The seperator goes around upper collar of the bearing. Hook that to the puller which will push off of the center of the shaft and away you go.

Spindle bearings
Won't work; the flange on the spindle is wider than the diameter of the bearing race and there is no place for the puller to anchor. Pullers will also destroy the grease sheild on the bottom of the spindle shaft. Your best bet is tto heat the race with a torch or use a bearing "cracker" to remove it. I sent mine to a machine shop.
