hi all

i just inherited an old sears tractor. under the gray tremclad paint i see a golden yellow colour, with the hood being white. the motor is a single cylinder with horizontal crank shaft. carburetor is located behind the grille, and the engine looks to be an over head valve. if i were to guess i would say the engine is a kohler? if i knew where to look for the model number i might be able to positively id the beast. any ideas? thanks, mike

It's could be a early/mid 70's Suburban or ST tractor. You may find an ID tag on the motor that starts with 143.XXXXXXX. You might find a tractor model number on the shifter plate, or dash.

Upload some pictures in the photo section of the site and I'm sure we'll be able to tell you.

thank you for the reply!! i plan on posting some pics soon as this may be a long term project. online research has narrowed it down to a 1976-77 6/16 model. did they use a kohler engine and what model is is?

The standard engine for these tractors is a Tecumseh HH series. That model year would have had the overhead valves.
